Welcome to South Yarmouth Library Association

The South Yarmouth Library Association, which was formed in 1869 and established in the Agreement of Association dated April 4, 1908, is a volunteer non-profit organization with a simple mission: to promote and enhance the services of the South Yarmouth Library and to raise funds to provide materials and programs not covered in the library’s operating budget. It encourages gifts, including materials, endowments, bequests and other support and administers funds already left in trust. With this support, the South Yarmouth Library is able to provide programs such as literacy and musical programs, summer reading programs, story hours, the Sunday Author Series and Yarmouth Reads. In addition, the Association awards the Cecelia Siemen Scholarship in the Visual Arts, funds museum passes, public access computers, library furniture, craft supplies, Staff and Volunteer Appreciation events, and co-sponsors, with West Yarmouth Library Association, the annual Who-ville Express.

Getting Involved

All residents and visitors to Yarmouth are invited to join the Association and help the South Yarmouth Library continue to enrich the community. Membership applications are available in the South Yarmouth Library and in other town buildings. You may also print a copy of the membership application from the library website. Tax-deductible annual dues are $5 for Students & Seniors, $10 for an Individual membership, $20 for Family, $100 for Benefactor or Business/Organization. In addition to collecting membership dues, the Association raises funds in the following ways:

The Little Corner Book Store, located on the first floor of the South Yarmouth Library, is open the same hours as the Library. Stocked with a variety of books for all ages, puzzles, DVDs and more - it is a successful ongoing fundraiser for the Association that benefits the South Yarmuth Library.

Holiday 12 Days Stroll a SUCCESS!

The South Yarmouth Library Association Board members along with the staff of the South Yarmouth Library wish to extend a warm and heartfelt THANK YOU to our creative homeowners, site managers, and behind the scenes volunteers for making the first “Twelve Days of Christmas Stroll” a success.

Mother Nature did her best to dampen spirits but in true Cape-Cod style our resiliency prevailed. Strollers were treated to a delightfully amusing and whimsical representation of the popular holiday song.  Board members braved the elements to sell both tickets and masks at the Library throughout the day.

Many strollers expressed gratitude for providing  a safe way to embrace the holiday spirit with family and friends.  Through the generosity of 75+ strollers and the sewing skills of some fine mask makers, we raised around $2,000.00 for the South Yarmouth Library.  The winner of the gift certificate to Gerardi’s Café was so thrilled. In her words “I’ve never won anything in my whole life!”-Anne

We hope you will enjoy this small video capturing just a small sample of the day’s sights.  A special thank you to our photographer Mary Jane Xenakis.

The SYLA wishes everyone Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year.
